Why a deep nuclear waste repository should not be sited in Cumbria: A Geological Review

In February 2011, the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM) wrote to the West Cumbrian Managing Radioactive Waste Safely Partnership to assert that there was no basis for the views expressed by Professor David Smythe regarding the unsuitability of West Cumbria. CoRWM wrote: “there is presently no credible scientific case to support the contention that all of West Cumbria is geologically unsuitable“.

Here David Smythe refutes this bald assertion with a detailed 35-page review of the geology and hydrogeology of Cumbria.

Why a deep nuclear waste repository should not be sited in Cumbria: A Geological Review by Professor David Smythe. April 2011.
