Caroline Lucas MP asks about quantities of nuclear waste created by civil nuclear programmes so far, and the quantities expected from a new build programme. Energy Minister, Charles Hendry MP, refers to the most recent UK radioactive waste inventory published on 22nd March 2011. He also says that for a 10GW new reactor programme operating over 60 years the estimated amount of intermediate level waste could be of the order of 25,000 cubic meters and an estimated amount of spent fuel of about 20,000 cubic meters. And approximately 80,000 cubic meters of Low Level Waste might be produced.
