NWAA response to Environment Agency Consultation on the Waste Implications of the Proposed EPR and AP1000 New Build nuclear reactor designs – The EA Generic Design Assessment ( GDA). The Environment Agency’s (EA’s) role is to ensure the impact of radioactive wastes on the environment is minimised. The consultation documents supposedly set out a detailed evaluation of how wastes from the proposed new reactors would be handled, yet they fail to properly examine the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s (NDA’s) assessments of the disposability of spent fuel from new reactor types. The nuclear industry has yet to provide a credible scientific case for nuclear waste disposal yet the EA propose postponing this critical issue until some unspecified time in the future.
